Cy Huber races in the rain during the 4x800-meter relay. He helped the Wildcats to seventh-place finish in the event.

Maquoketa Valley had a successful end to the season as the Wildcats medaled in four events at the Class 1A Co-Ed State Track and Field Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, May 20-22.

Cy Huber, AJ Ambundo, Nolan Ries and Michael Schaul earned a berth in the 4x400-meter relay finals with the fifth-fastest time in Class 1A — 3:30.31. Then, in the finals the quartet improved on their time and seeding. The Wildcats were clocked in at 3:29.01, which was good enough for second place. The race was won by Danville in 3:28.68.

“The Wildcats believed they could be state champions and they performed like it by running a season-best time of 3:29.01. Unfortunately, they came up just short to No. 1 rated-Danville,” Pat Meehan, MV boys’ coach said.

Amaya Hunt raced her way to a seventh-place finish in the 400 with a time of 1:01.41.

In the 4x800 finals, Ethan Doyl, Huber, Nolan Ries and Schaul teamed up for a seventh-place finish in 8:33.31.
