At the Mississippi Valley Sophomore Conference Super Meet Oct. 23, all four Beckman swimmers competed and Wahlert placed eighth among the 12 teams there.

Kelly Snyder placed fifth in the 100-breaststroke to earn a place on the podium and a medal. She was also part of the seventh-place finishes for the 200-medley relay and the 200-freestyle relay, with Kayla Wuebker, Jessie Then and Cate Ihrig. She came in ninth in the 200-IM.

Then was 11th in the 100-fly and 13th in the 500-freestyle. Mary McKean came in 14th in the 100-freestyle, with anyone in the top 16 earning points for the team. McKean also took 18th in the 200-free while Betsy Halligan was 27th in the 100-free and 28th in the 200-IM.

Coach Emily Snyder added, “This was a great end-of-the-season meet for Mary and Betsy. They both tapered amazingly and concluded their seasons with personal best times. They were both a wonderful addition to the team. Kelly and Jessie start tapering and resting now for the state qualifying meet Nov. 6.”

The team placed second in both the varsity and JV competitions at the Dubuque City Meet Oct. 19. Senior won the City titles and Hempstead took third.

In varsity races, Snyder was part of the second-place 200-medley relay with Avery Schmidt, Natalie Kelzer and Brooke Wuebker, as well as second in the 100-breaststroke and fourth in the 200-IM. Then took fourth in both the 100-breaststroke and 100-fly and was part of two fifth-place relays, the 200-free with Taylor Borgerding, Snyder and Mia Brooner and the 200-medley with Taylor Weig, Ihrig and Borgerding.

In the JV meet, McKean claimed second in the 100-breaststroke and third in the 50-free. Halligan was fifth in the 200-IM. Both were part of the second-place 200-free relay, with Gracie Godel and Layla Krausman and the third-place 400-free relay with Godel and Amalia Strahl.

Coach Snyder added, “Mary and Betsy were both rested and tapered for this meet. They both had four personal best times, which is what we strive and work for all season. They have both been great additions to the Wahlert (Beckman co-op) swim team.

“Kelly’s 100-breaststroke and Jessie’s 100-fly were amazing swims for both of them at this point in the season.”
