Bobcats excel at Cascade Invitational

Drexler Middle School’s seventh grade boys track and field teams excelled at the Cascade Junior High Invitational on April 28. The Drexler Red team placed second and the Black team was third.

Thomas Ludwig raced to first place in the 1,600-meter run in 6:08.1. Carter Kluesner was second (6:10.4) and Matt Gassman third (6:20.1).

Calvin Harris won the high jump with a height of 5-5. Bryce Ploessl was sixth (4-8) and Caden Hickie eighth (4-6).

Benjamin Niklasen finished first in the discus (102-1), Peyton Deppe was third (75-0), Henry Gassman fourth (71-0) and Will Conlon eighth (59-0).

Hickie placed second in the 200 (28.6), Connor Coyle was fourth (31.9) and Jack Wiese eighth (33.7).

Kale Cartee earned a second-place finish in the 400 (1:05.2), Jack Haverland was fourth (1:12.9) and Jackson Noll fifth (1:13.1).

Conlon was second in the shot put (31-8), Tim Althaus was fifth (28-10).

In the 100, Jesse Straka placed third (13.6), Bailey Rice was fifth (15.0) and Wiese seventh (16.1).

Jake Hosch placed third in the 800 (2:43.3), Michael Kraft was fourth (2:45.8) and Carter Kluesner fifth (2:46.3).

Will Burds finished third in the 110-hurdles (19.2) and Austin Brimeyer was seventh (21.8).

Cameron Kluesner finished fourth in the long jump (14-6).

In the 200-hurdles, Brimeyer was sixth (34.4) and Cody Gadberry was eighth (35.4).

Drexler won the 4x200 in 1:57.86 and placed seventh (2:17.6).

The Bobcats took first in the sprint medley with a time of 1:56.6 and also placed seventh (2:15.3).

Drexler swept the competition in the 4x400 with the Black team winning in 4:15.2 and the Red team taking second (4:49.4).

In the 4x100, Drexler placed fifth (1:03.9) and seventh (1:06.5).

Drexler placed second and third in the 4x800 relay (times were not available). In the distance medley, Drexler was third (4:56.7) and fourth (5:05.1). The shuttle hurdle teams placed third (1:30.7) and fourth (1:31.9).

Seventh-grade Blazers win two invitational titles

At both Cascade and Monticello, the Beckman seventh-grade boys track and field team grabbed first place in the team standings.

At Cascade on April 28, the Blazers tallied 132 points to top Western Dubuque by six points. The Blazers placed first in no less than six events: shot put — Evan Wulfekuhle (32-8.33); 4x800 — Sean Kluesner, Wulfekuhle, Riley Fangman and Tom Jaeger (10:12.10); 100 — Jaeger (12.32); 400 — Fangman (61.63); 800 — Jaeger (2:27.61); and 4x100 — Fangman, Michael Keegan, Kluesner and Wulfekuhle (51.52).

The Blazers grabbed seconds in four events: long jump — Kluesner (15-6); high jump — Jaeger (5-1); 10-flight hurdles — Keegan (18.54); 200-hurdles — Keegan 30.99).

Thirds went to Keegan in long jump (14-11), Luke Olberding in 200 (31.77) and the sprint medley (Kluesner, Jack Westhoff, Luke Goedken and Wulfekuhle —2:04.15).

Placing fourth was the 4x400 team of Olberding, Adam Schmitt, Cole Domeyer and Goedken (5:23.04). Taking fifth was Will Brehm in discus (68-0) and 200 (32.89).

Placing sixth was the 4x200 relay of Brehm, Olberding, Goedken and Westhoff (2:07.97). Seventh place went to three events: distance medley — Schmitt, Domeyer, Westhoff and Goedken (5:17.61); shot put — Brehm (28-10.7); high jump — Fangman (4-6).

On April 30, the Blazers topped an eight-team field with 114 points, 18 points in front of Maquoketa Valley.

Eight events earned first place points: long jump — Fangman (15-5); shot put — Wulfekuhle (32-11); 100 — Jaeger (13.20); 400 — Fangman (61.50); 800 — Jaeger (2:26.94); sprint medley — Kluesner, Westhoff, Goedken and Wulfekuhle (1:59.57); 4x100 — Fangman, Kluesner, Wulfekuhle and Keegan (52.29); 4x400 — Kluesner, Wulfekuhle, Fangman and Jaeger (4:24.60).

Jaeger was second in long jump (15-3) and Keegan second in high jump (4-8). Thirds went to Brehm in shot put (20-8.25), Keegan in 10-flight hurdles (17.95) and 200-hurdles (32.58).

Kluesner took fourth in high jump (4-4) and the 4x200 was fourth — Brehm, Olberding, Goedken and Westhoff (2:10.68). The distance medley was fifth — Brehm, Olberding, Schmitt and Westhoff (5:21.03). Brehm was seventh in discus (65-71).

Seventh-grade Blazers compete at WD

Several first place finishes in events led the seventh-grade Beckman girls at the Western Dubuque junior high meet on April 30 at Epworth.

Paige McDermott took the long jump (15-0), Jordan Helle the 200-hurdles (36.06 for a personal record), Haley LeGrand the high jump (4-9, in her first time in the event), and the 4x400 team of Olivia Pirc, Helle, LeGrand and Ashley Engelken won in 4:53.69.

Seconds went to Pirc in high jump (4-8, personal record), shuttle hurdle team of Olivia Thier, Elizabeth McGrane, Helle and McDermott (1:24.27), and the 1,600-medley of McDermott, McGrane, Mary Gallagher and Thier (5:24.86).

Placing third were Pirc in 100 (14.36), Helle in 100-hurdles (20.19), Engelken in 200 (30.55), LeGrand in long jump (13-11) and the 4x200 relay (2:06.98).

Fourths went to Engelken in the 100 (14.76), Cambrie Willenbring in 800 (3:13.26) and Thier in the 1500 (6:04.49).

Placing fifth was Willenbring in 1500 (6:35.29).

DMS fares well at Cascade Invitational

In eighth-grade track and field action, Drexler took two teams to the Cascade Invitational and placed third and fifth.

Drake George won the 400-meter dash with a winning time of 57.6. Zach Butcher was fourth (1:02.1).

Sam Goodman won the 1,600 with a time of 5:19.5, Brent Hess was fifth (6:09) and Elijah Demmer seventh (6:39.9).

Butcher finished first in the long jump (18-2), Damon Jaeger was second (17-11) and Ben DeSollar eighth (15-8).

Butcher placed second in the 200 (26.6), Austin Spielbauer was sixth (28.8) and Tim Feltes eighth (29.7).

Ryker Kurimski placed second in the 800 (2:24.1) and Dylan Theisen was fifth (2:38.4).

In the shot put, Clemen placed second (37-5). Justin Kluesner finished second in the discus (110-1) and Ryan Clemen was sixth (92-0).

Jaeger placed fourth in the 100 (12.8) and DeSollar was seventh (13.6).

Grant Kelchen finished fourth in the high jump (5-1.5) and Daniel Fagerlind was eighth (5-0).

Jakob Decker finished fifth in the 200-hurdles (30.8) and Jaden Kelleher was seventh (31.1).

The Drexler Black team finished first in the sprint medley in 1:53.9 and the Red team was seventh (2:02.1).

The 4x800 Black team finished first, but no time was available.

Drexler won the 4x100 in 53.0 and placed seventh (53.11). The 4x400 Black team finished first in 4:06.5 and the Red team was fourth (4:45.6).

In the shuttle hurdle relay, the Bobcats finished third (1:17.3).

In the 4x200, Drexler finished fourth (2:00.4). The Bobcats were sixth (4:46.3) and eighth (5:06.8) in the distance medley.

Blazers compete at two meets

On April 28, the Beckman eighth-grade boys track and field team were at Cascade and placed eighth in the team totals.

The Blazers were led by their sprint medley team of Carter Petsche, Brock Marbach, Avery Tauke and Owen Grover, who finished second with a time of 1:55.64.

Placing third were three events: high jump — Grover (5-1), 400 — Grover (60.22); and 4x800 — Tauke, Seamus O’Connor, Patrick Kelly and Grover (10:33).

The 4x200 relay placed fifth in 2:02.05 (Petsche, Michael Roling, Marcus Schneider and Marbach). Taking sixth was the 4x100 relay of Petsche, Kelly, Tauke and O’Connor (55.23).

The distance medley was seventh in 4:48.58 (Shawn Deutmeyer, Marbach, Roling and Kelly). Taking eighth was O’Connor in the 100 (13.71).

At Monticello on April 30, the Blazers were eighth as well. Grover was first in the 400 (59.59) and part of the second place sprint medley team (1:56.05 — Petsche, Marbach, Tauke and Grover).

They took several fourth places: high jump — Grover (5-2); 800 — Grover (2:30.47); 4x100 — Petsche, Kelly, Tauke and O’Connor (55.29); and 4x400 — Roling, Petsche, Kelly and Tauke (4:37.70).

Placing sixth were the distance medley (5:00.55 — Deutmeyer, Marbach, Roling and Kelly) and 4x200 (2:06.88 — O’Connor, Roling, Schneider and Marbach).

O’Connor placed eighth in the 200 (30.30). Deutmeyer and Schneider were ninth and 10th in 10-flight hurdles (20.53, 20.00). Schneider took 10th in 200-hurdles (36.27).

Blazers compete at Bobcat Invite

Among the eighth-grade runners for Beckman at the Bobcat junior high meet April 30, several placed second to lead the squad.

Isabelle Bennett was second in the high jump (4-8), Nicole Schmitt second in the 800 (2:59.59) and the sprint medley team of Ellie Bildstein, Jessica Lueken, Sydney Arens and Sydney Steffen finished second in a time of 2:12.40, as did the sprint medley team (5:06.94, names unavailable).

Bildstein was third in 100 (14.45) and fourth in long jump (13-09). Lueken was third in shot put (26-11) and Steffen was fifth (25-06).

Emma Squiers placed fourth in 1500 (6:21.92). Fifths went to the 4x100 hurdle team (1:28.94), Schmitt in 400 (1:15.43), Steffen in discus (61-03), and the 4x400 relay (5:11.12). Lueken was sixth in discus (60-09). Brooke Schieltz placed seventh in 200 hurdles (41.63) as did the 4x100 relay (1:07.87) and Alexis White in 200 (35.63).
