Blazers second at DeWitt junior high track meet

Totalling 118 points put the Beckman seventh-grade boys track and field team in second place at the Central DeWitt junior high meet April 23. Only Solon, at 145, beat the Blazers.

In third was Western Dubuque, 111, followed by DeWitt 57, North Cedar 54, Northeast 41 and Camanche 29.

The team copped six firsts in the meet: Tom Jaeger in 100 (12.72) and 800 (2:29.66), Riley Fangman in 400 (62.97), Michael Keegan in 10-flight hurdles (17.49), the 4x100 of Fangman, Sean Kluesner, Evan Wulfekuhle, and Keegan (52.92) and the 4x400 of Kluesner, Wulfekuhle, Fangman and Jaeger (4:23.12). Kluesner tied for first in high jump (4-10).

Second went to Jaeger in long jump (14-3).

Thirds came from Wulfekuhle in shot put (32-8), Keegan in 200-hurdles (31.95) and the sprint medley team of Kluesner, Jack Westhoff, Luke Goedken and Wulfekuhle (2:06.08).

Fangman placed fourth in long jump (14-3) and Will Brehm was fourth in shot put (32-3.5).

Fifths went to the 4x800 relay of Luke Olberding, Adam Schmitt, Cole Domeyer and Goedken (12:29.92) and the distance medley of Brehm, Domeyer, Schmitt and Westhoff (5:30.40).

Placing sixth was the 4x200 of Schmitt, Olberding, Goedken and Westhoff (2:07.96).

Drexler places fourth in Bellevue

The Drexler Middle School seventh-grade girls track and field team placed fourth of nine teams in their division of the Little Comet Relays on April 17 in Bellevue.

Emily Bonert finished first in the high jump (4-4) and Alisa Marin was fifth (3-10). In the 4x800, Lindsey Eimers, Amy Kane, Emily Bonert and Madisan Birt placed first (12:05.32). Eimers, Kane, Kylie Steffensmeier and Birt placed first in the 4x400 (5:01.53).

Hope Siglin finished second in the 400 (1:24.50). The Bobcat medley team placed second (5:58.39). Steffensmeier was second in the 1,500 (6:17.03) and Jacie Walters was fifth (7:23.25).

Birt finished third in the long jump (12-7). Kylie Steffensmeier, Mindy Schreiber, Selena Fischer and Teresa Petsche placed third in the shuttle hurdle relay (1:33.73). Libby Freiburger, Ashlyn Habel, Marin and Bonert placed third in the sprint medley (2:20.89). Jordan Pfeiler was third in the 200-hurdles (38.70).

Julia Gasper placed fourth in the shot put (18-10) and Teresa Petsche was sixth (16-7). Petsche, Rachel Krapfl, Morgan Deutmeyer and Nicole Gudenkauf placed fourth in the 4x200 (2:23.74).

Freiburger placed fifth in the 800 (3:15.24) and Skyler Kelly was sixth (3:24). Siglin, Gasper, Morgan Deutmeyer and Gudenkauf placed fifth in the 4x100 (1:09.21).

Blazers place at West Delaware, Maquoketa Valley

Beckman’s seventh-grade girls track and field team won several firsts at two meets in the past weeks.

At West Delaware on April 10, Paige McDermott won the long jump (14-2) and the 4x400 team of Olivia Pirc, Jordan Helle, Haley LeGrand and Ashley Engelken took first with a time of 4:54.9.

Seconds went to Pirc in the 100 (14.47) and high jump (4-2), McDermott in 200-hurdles (43.04) the 4x200 of LeGrand, Chloe Ungs, Elizabeth McGrane and Engelken (2:11.64).

Placing fourth were Helle in 200-hurdles (36.11) and the distance medley team of Engelken, McDermott, Cambrie Willenbring and Olivia Thier (5:18.96).

Mary Gallagher came in fifth in the 400 (1:20.22) and Thier was sixth in 1500 (6:07.65).

On April 25, the Blazers were at Maquoketa Valley and earned first place in the team standings with 112 points. Individual firsts came from McDermott in long jump and 200-hurdles, Pirc in 100, Helle in 100 hurdles, 1600 medley (Engelken, Helle, McDermott and Thier), the 4x200 (LeGrand, McGrane, Engelken and Pirc) and the 4x400 (Pirc, McDermott, LeGrand and Engelken).

Seconds went to Pirc in high jump, Thier in 1,500 and Helle in 200-hurdles. Times and distances were not reported.

DMS takes first

Drexler Middle School won the seventh-grade boys division of the Little Comet Relays on April 17 in Bellevue.

Calvin Harris won the high jump (4-10) and Bryce Ploessl was third (4-8). Ben Hogan finished first in the 200-hurdles (33.53) and Keaton Kelleher was sixth (37.57). Austin Speilhauer, Henry Gassman, Micah Rowles and Tyler Meyer placed first in the 4x100 (54.69). Jake Hosch, Jake Haverland, Caden Hickes and Ploessl raced to first in the 4x400 (4:35.05). The Bobcats won the 4x800 (10:27.59) and the sprint medley (1:59.83).

Ben Bryant finished second in the long jump (14-0.5) and Cameron Kluesner was fifth (13-2). Caleb Nerney, Calen Manemann, Jaylen Kidd and Charles Tyler finished second in the shuttle hurdle relay (1:32.41). Connor Coyle, Riley Wise, Nathan Vaske and Michael Kraft placed second in the medley (5:14.67).

Jackson Noll was second in the 400 (1:14.76) and Ben Muhlert sixth (1:20.89). Michael Kraft was second in the 800 (2:47.63) and Haverland fourth (2:53.28).

Peyton Deppe placed third in the discus (76-0). Hogan was third in the 100 (14.59) and Sam Becker was fifth (15.83). Matt Gassman placed third in the 1,600 (6:02.49) and Thomas Ludwig was fourth (6:04.58). Will Burds finished third in the 100-hurdles (18.10).

DMS wins Little Comet Relays

Drexler Middle School’s eighth-grade girls track team won its division of the Little Comet Relays in Bellevue on April 17.

Hannah Theisen won the discus (63-3) and Allison Oberbroeckling was fifth (52-0). Jenna Hoefler finished first in the shot put (25-6.5) and Oberbroeckling was sixth (20-8.5).

In the high jump, Rylee Bockenstedt finished first (4-3) and Addie McDermott tied for second (4-2). The 4x800 team of Clare Botello, Chloe Cripe, Morgan Simon and Lexi Banks finished first (12:13.06). In the medley, WD placed first (5:18.99).

Brinnley Breitbach, Leah Wille, Olivia Kertles and Bockenstedt placed second in the shuttle hurdle relay (1:24.05). Carly Steffen was second in the long jump (14-0) and Megan Claude third (13-3.5).

McDermott, Paige Hollenback, Lexi Banks and Catie Brosius placed second in the 4x400 (5:04.36). Hollenback, Breitbach, Kaylee Koss and Steffen placed second in the sprint medley (2:15.70). Kertles finished second in the 800 (3:08.56) and Hannah Theisen fourth (3:14.95).

In the 1,500, Simon was second (6:30.81) and Cripe third (6:44.16). Ali Silker was third in the 400 (1:12.14) and Kertles sixth (1:18.47). Bockenstedt finished third in the 100-hurdles (20.04).

Claude placed fourth in the 200-hurdles (34.50) and Samantha Clasen was sixth (36.42). The 4x100 team of Koss, Becca Hoefler, Emma Hardin and Kirsten Schroeder placed fifth (1:06.68). The 4x200 team of Mollie McDermott, Lexi Klostermann, Grace Pitz and Hoefler placed sixth (2:21.56). Silker finished sixth in the 200 (31.79).

Bobcats finish first

In boys eighth-grade track and field action, Drexler Middle School won the Little Comet Relays in Bellevue on April 17.

Travis Tucker earned a first-place finish in the discus (100-0) and Justin Kluesner was fourth (90-8). Ryan Clemen threw to first place in the shot put (36-2.5). Damon Jaeger leapt to first place in the long jump (17-0.5).

Ryker Kurimski, Dylan Theisen, Jeff Theisen and Sam Goodman won the 4x800-meter relay (10:01.51). Goodman finished first in the 1,600 (5:24) and Brent Hess was sixth (5:57.76). The sprint medley team placed first (1:49.60). Kurimski won the 800 (2:28.03).

Jacob Decker, Trenton Miller, Grant Kelchen and Jason Simon-Ressler finished second in the shuttle hurdle relay (1:15.16). The 4x100 crew of Daniel Fagerlind, Kelchen, Damon Jaeger and Drake George placed second (51.01). Brent Hess, Elijah Demmer, Goodman and Theisen placed second in the 4x400 (4:31.82).

Jaeger placed second in the 100 (12.10) and George was third (12.28). Kelchen finished second in the 100-hurdles (17.66) and Decker was fourth (19.13).

Simon-Ressler finished third in the 200-hurdles (31.97).

The medley team of Ben Hingtgen, Tucker, Demmer and Theisen placed fourth (4:43.17).

In the high jump, Kelchen was fifth (5-0) and Fagerlind sixth (5-0). Decker, Tim Feltes, Miller and Hingtgen placed sixth in the 4x200 (2:00.96).

Blazers compete at Central DeWitt

In a junior high meet at Central DeWitt on April 23, the Beckman eighth-grade boys track and field team placed seventh.

Western Dubuque won the meet with 115 points, followed by Northeast 101, Solon 98, Camanche 89, DeWitt 81, North Cedar 31, Beckman 28 and Easton Valley 12.

Owen Grover grabbed the lone first-place finish, in the 400 with a time of 60.88, and also finished in third place in the high jump (5-3).

The sprint medley team of Carter Petsche, Brock Marbach, Avery Tauke and Grover placed second (1:57.79).

The 4x800 of Tauke, Seamus O’Connor, Patrick Kelly and Grover was fourth (10.43.36).

Placing fifth was the 4x400 relay of Petsche, Kelly, Tauke and Michael Roling (4:43.28). Marcus Schneider placed sixth in 10-flight hurdles (20.64) and Shawn Deutmeyer was seventh (21.36). The distance medley team of Deutmeyer, Marbach, Kelly and Matt Halverson was seventh (5:12.52).

Eighth grade Blazers win titles

Beckman’s eighth-grade girls track and field team earned the team title at Maquoketa Valley on April 25, and several first-place individual titles at West Delaware on April 10.

The Blazers won the team title by a single point, with a 117 final tally. They got a first from Jessica Lueken in shot put, and three top finishes from Heather Boeckenstedt, in long jump, 200-hurdles and 100-hurdles, where she broke a school record (17.84).

Seconds went to the shuttle hurdle relay of Isabelle Bennett, Sydney Arens, Leigha Manternach and Boeckenstedt; the sprint medley of Ellie Bildstein, Lueken, Arens and Sydney Steffen; and Bildstein in both 100 and long jump. Individual times and distances were not reported.

At West Delaware on April 10, the Blazers got a first from Boeckenstedt in 200 hurdles (32.51). She also claimed two seconds, in 100-hurdles (19.19) and long jump (14-9).

The shuttle hurdle team of Bildstein, Bennett, Arens and Boeckenstedt placed second (1:21.87).

Bildstein came in fourth in long jump (14-0) as did the distance medley relay of Alexis White, Shelby Westhoff, Steffen and Emma Squiers (5:17.64).

Fifths went to the 4x200 relay of Westhoff, Haiden Koopman, Manternach and Lueken (2:16.53), the 4x100 of Lueken, Brianna Kennedy, Manternach and Claire English (1:05.59) and the 800-sprint medley of White, Bildstein, Bennett and Nicole Schmitt (2:20.32).

Bennett was sixth in the high jump (4-05) and Westhoff took sixth in 200 (32.28).

Bobcats excel at home meet

Western Dubuque’s boys track and field team put together some fine performances at their own Junior Varsity Co-Ed on April 13.

Isaac Hoffman won the 1,600 with a time of 5:15.80 and Rys Huehnergarth was fifth (5:31.27).

Matt Simon, Dalton Kramer, Jake Feldman and Dylan Ambrosy teamed up to win the 1,600-medley (4:13.42). Jake Westhoff finished first in the shot put (41-2.5) and Devyn Hoefler was fifth (38-3).

Carter Pins, Feldmann, Kramer and Anthony Kluesner finished second in the 4x200 (1:41.33). Hoffman placed second in the 800 (2:24.67) and Huehnergarth was fourth (2:34.53). Pins, Alex Merten, Kramer and Kluesner placed second in the 4x100 (48.22).

Simon, Recker, Kyle Cleary and Thomas Griner placed second in the 4x400 (3:54.70).

Danny Recker, Conner Burk, Ben Lenstra and Kinzel Pulley placed third in the shuttle hurdle relay (1:13.32). Kluesner placed second in the long jump (18-7).

Hoefler placed third in the discus (113-4) and Westhoff was fourth (111-3). Lenstra finished fourth in the 110-high hurdles (18.35). Burk was fourth in the 400-hurdles (1:05.09).

Andy Zweibohmer finished fifth in the 100 (12.44). Dylan Ambrosy was fifth in the 400 (59.13).
