At the Jan. 3 tournament in Anamosa, three members of the Western Dubuque girls’ wrestling team won first place in their respective divisions.

Addison Steffen in the 138-140 divison, Josie Jecklin in 147-152 and Sharidan Engelken in 185-192 all claimed firsts.

Steffen took her first two bouts via falls, from Rayleigh Stander, of Vinton-Shellsburg (0:35) and Anna Hodge, of North Scott (0:19). Her third win was by major decision over McKenzie Adair, of Cedar Falls (10-2).

Jecklin decisioned her first opponent, Kysa Klein, of Waverly-Shell Rock (3-0), received a bye and then felled Charles City’s Destiny Kolheim (2:22).

Engelken racked up two falls, over Carolin Orr, of Ames (1:50) and Sumner-Fredericksburg’s Emma Speicher (0:50).

Rachael Rhomberg claimed second in the 140-145 division, as did Kiya Steger at 160-166. Rhomberg went 2-1 with a pin over Prairie’s Anna Lentz (2:48) and decision from Pleasant Valley’s Kyna Moffit (9-3). She dropped a 6-4 decision in the final against Benton Community’s Madilyn Colburn. Steger built a technical fall over North Scott’s Hanna Huerta (18-2) before falling to Clayton Ridge’s Samantha Spielbauer (0:19).

Taking thirds were Grace Murphy at 95-101, Grace Davis at 117-118 and Adrianna Shephard at 213-222.
