Western Dubuque had a solid day at the Rob Brown Cross Country Classic in Iowa City Sept. 5. Three Bobcats brought home top-10 finishes, while the varsity girls finished third as a team and the boys fourth.

Lauren Klein and Elly Burds led the Western Dubuque girls throughout the race finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. The pair of juniors were right on one another’s heels with Klein finishing in 20:37.04 and Burds in 20:37.45. Rounding out WD’s counters were Audrey Bierman 16th (22:25), Lilly Boge 36th (23:36) and Caylee Hermsen 38th (23:55). Amelia Klostermann and Macy Simon finished 41st (23:58) and 45th (24:05), respectively.

Iowa City Liberty won the girls team title with 48 points. Solon was second (76), Western Dubuque third (88), Monticello fourth (114), Marion fifth (135), Mount Vernon-Lisbon sixth (146), Iowa City Regina seventh (155), Clear Creek-Amana eighth (189), Tipton ninth (243), Anamosa 10th (267) and Wilton 11th (332).

Cade Messer was the leader on WD’s varsity boys team with a fourth-place finish in 17:29. Austin Huberty 13th (17:51). Kale Cartee 16th (17:57), El Nauman 18th (18:00) and Trenton Hammerand 31st (18:19) rounded out the counters. Matt Gassman and Connor Coyle placed 31st (18:31) and 32nd (18:36), respectively.

Tipton was the varsity boys team champion with 69 points. Iowa City Liberty placed second (73), Clear Creek Amana third (73), Western Dubuque fourth (75), Marion fifth (115), Monticello sixth (199), Mount Vernon-Lisbon seventh (207), Calamus-Wheatland eighth (230), Solon ninth (237), Wilton 10th (264), Iowa City Regina 11th (297), West Liberty 12th (329) and Anamosa 13th (332).

Noah Westhoff raced his way to seventh place in the boys junior varsity race with a time of 20:27 to help the Bobcats place fourth in the field of 10 teams. Levi Meyer finished 16th (20:52), Drew Meyer 21st (21:04), Dylan Schroeder 23rd (21:10) and Ben Soppe 29th (21:25) to round out the counters.

Other Bobcats running in the JV race were Jack Haverland 42nd (21:48), Evan Hoefler 55th (22:16), Devin Neuhaus 56th (22:17), Jacob Gottschalk 63rd (22:22), Brady Horsfall 66th (22:35), Isaiah Hammerand 82nd (23:28), Caden Coyle 91st (23:48), Connor Dolphin 92nd (23:49), Derek Fangmann 105th (24:38), Mitchell Gudenkauf 106th (24:44), Tony Lyon 113th (25:09), Levi Burds 117th (25:09), Jacob Stanner 119th (25:37), Timmy Horsfall 121st (25:47), Thomas Blair 123rd (25:54), Michael Kemp 126th (26:00), Cody Gadberry 127th (26:01) and Will Cosley 139th (27:3).

WD placed fifth of seven teams in the girls junior varsity race. Delaney Behning led the Bobcats with a fourth-place finish in 25:31. Leah Digmann was fifth (25:38), Maddy Welbes 27th (28:10), Allie Krapfl 30th (28:16) and Emily Deutmeyer 41st (28:50).
