The Western Dubuque boys’ tennis team dropped a pair of meets last week, losing at home to Wahlert, 9-0, April 15, and at Iowa City Liberty, 7-2, April 13.
Hosting Wahlert, the Bobcats were unable to extend any matches, losing each singles match and each doubles match in straight sets.
Cayle Hermsen lost at No. 1 singles to Charlie Fair, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Michael Kemp fell to Jack Freiburger, 6-0, 6-1. Brayden Wickham battled Rick Walker at No. 3 singles, losing 6-0, 6-2, while Kayden Singh lost to Roan Martineau at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Hunter Kamp lost to Sam Timp at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and Blake Wickham lost to Nolan Martineau at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Hermsen and Brayden Wickham fell to Fair and Freiburger at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, 6-0. Kemp and Singh lost at No. 2 doubles to Walker and Roan Martineau, 6-2, 6-1, while Kamp and Blake Wickham dropped their No. 3 doubles match to Nolan Martineau and Josh Conlon, 6-0,6-2.
The Bobcats began their week at Iowa City Liberty, losing to the Lightning, 7-2.
Kemp was the lone Bobcat to win a singles match, winning his No. 2 match over Jacob Mascardo, 6-4, 6-4.
Hermsen lost his No. 1 singles match to Ryan Bys, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Brayden Wickham pushed Paarin Rastogi in their first set, before losing 7-5. Rastogi went on to win set two, 6-0.
At No. 4 singles, Ankur Karandiker defeated Singh, 6-4, 5-7. Cooper Davenport won over Kamp at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-3. At No. 6 singles, Carter Leick defeated Blake Wickham in their first set, 6-2. Blake Wickham pushed Leick into a tie breaker, before losing 7-5 (10-8).
In doubles, Hermsen and Kamp lost to Bys and Mascardo at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-1. Kemp and Singh won No. 2 doubles over Rastogi and Karandiker, 7-6 (8-6), 7-5. Blake Wickham and Brayden Wickham lost at No. 3 doubles to Davenport and Leick, 6-1, 6-4.
The Bobcats were scheduled at Iowa City High April 17, but no results were available at press time.
