Maquoketa Valley’s boys’ cross country team left it all on the course Oct. 15 at Starmont. The Wildcats raced their way to the conference title with all five counters finishing in the top-16.
“The boys competed very well and showed they are ready to compete for the district championship at Clayton Ridge this Thursday. The top two teams at the district meet qualify for the state championships which are held Saturday, Oct. 31,” co-coach Pat Meehan said.
Cy Huber raced to third place with a time of 17:27. Nolan Ries fifth (17:29), Michael Schaul eighth (18:07), Mitch Heim 14th (19:05) and Brock Trenkamp 16th (19:26) secured the first-place team finish. Also running for MV were Toby Grimm 25th (20:15), Caleb Livingston 45th (23:08) and George Livingston 53rd (24:30).
Emma Doyl led MV in the girls’ varsity race with a 20th-place finish in 23:29. Zari Ambundo was 34th (27:20), Allison Hogan 37th (27:41), Jordan Hogan 46th (20:05), Cecily Trenkamp 47th (30:07) and Josie Teymer 56th (31:52).
“The day was successful in that five of the six girls ran their best times of the season,” Meehan said.
Starmont won the girls’ conference title with a perfect score of 15. Prince of Peace was second (43), Edgewood-Colesburg third (87), Maquoketa Valley fourth (102) and North Linn fifth (140).
