It’s been a while coming, but the Maquoketa Valley girls put a full team on the golf course April 22 at Hart Ridge when it hosted Cascade.
The Wildcats fell, 214-251, despite Madeline Gellerson’s medal-winning 46. They counted a 58 from Jordyn LeGassick, 70 from Kaela Clemen and 77 from Mianna Gosche.
For the Cougars, it was Sam Frasher with a runner-up 49, followed by double 54’s from Megan Smith and Anna Manternach and 57 from either McKenna Gehl or Emily Conlin. Ellie Noonan shot a non-counting 60.
Coach Tim Andrews was pleased with Gellerson’s 46. “That was a season-low for Madeline and one of some bright spots we can build from. The girls all enjoyed finally playing in some springtime sunshine today. And although the contest wasn’t quite as close as we would have liked, the weather helped make the scoring better. The girls are improving each week.”
Playing at St. Andrews in Cedar Rapids April 23, the girls met Alburnett and fell, 211-259. Gellerson paced their scores with 55, followed by Clemen 60, LeGassick 65 and Hogan 79.
The Pirates copped both medals with Sammy Ahrendsen’s 45 and McKenna Parker’s 48. They added double 59’s, from Abbie Eschen and Sydeney Cook.
Andrews added, “The weather was cold, windy and dreary and the girls played against the conditions all night. Although we did not come away with the win, there was still plenty to be happy about, in the development of their games. Kaela hit a personal best with her round. It was a great night of golf.”
