Maquoketa Valley closed out the wrestling season at the Class 1A District Tournament at Denver, Feb. 13.

Carter Kruse, a senior, and Brady Davis, a freshman, both finished the season with a fourth-place finish at districts.

“As I look back to the start of the season up to now, we made big strides to where we want to go in the future of Maquoketa valley wrestling. We watched these kids grow as individuals into a team. They did all that we asked and then some. We trained hard all season long to get the opportunity to wrestle at the ‘Well.’ But within the sport, it is proven that no one knows what could happen,” coach Kurt Hatfield said.

“With the five returners next year, we told them their story is not over yet. Looking back on the season you can learn from it. Remind yourself what you did to get here. What we didn’t do, and what we need to do to get better for next year. A common quote we say in the wrestling room is “We practice harder than yesterday to be better for tomorrow,” said Hatfield

Beckman Catholic won the district title with 86 points. Denver was second (77), East Buchanan third (71), MFL, MarMac fourth (62), North Linn fifth (59), Starmont sixth (44), Cascade seventh (42), Sumner-Fredericksburg eighth (37), Wapsie Valley ninth (37), Jesup 10th (22), Postville 11th (14), Edgewood-Colesburg 12th (12), Central Community 13th (10), Clayton Ridge 14th (10) and Maquoketa Valley 15th (0).
