Maquoketa Valley’s boys’ cross country team combined for a third-place finish at the Jesup Invitational, Sept. 28. Cy Huber led the Wildcats around the course with a fourth-place finish in 17:05.2. Nolan Ries fifth (17:05.8), Michael Schaul 16th (17:57), George Livingston 56th (18:46) and Matthew Schaul 60th (18:52) rounded out the scoring five. Arion Rave finished 98th (19:39).

Sophomore Isabel Imler led MV in the junior varsity girls’ field with a second-place finish in 23:26. McKenna Bush placed 68th (27:06), Jordan Hogan 86th (28:20) and Allison Hogan 106th (28:58).

Toby Grimm was MV’s lead runner in the boys’ junior varsity race. He placed 12th in 20:05. Landin Frasher was 35th (21:07), Brady Eike 45th (21:39), Caleb Livingston 59th (22:14) and Sebastian Charles 141st (30:12). The boys finished seventh as a team in the 13-team field.

Taryn Burbridge ran strong in the middle school girls’ competition. She finished second in 9:08.4 behind first-place Payton Foster, of Dike-New Hartford in 9:07.4 in the 1.5-mile race. Emily Rudd placed 61st (11:44), Haydin Flannagan 64th (11:47) and Elizabeth Kraft 120th (14:01).
