Beckman’s 2019 varsity football team: front from left, Tom Jaeger, Cole Domeyer, Nick Hageman, Nick Offerman, Trent Koelker, Owen Huehnergarth, Derick Ludwig and Evan Wulfekuhle; second row, Riley Fangman, Lane Kramer, Luke Hirsch, Owen Gaul, Victor Meyer, Jacob Sadler, Peyton Tauke, Drew Soppe and Ben Lueck; back row, Will Brehm, Cameron Krapfl, Garrett Davis, head coach Mark Atwater, assistant coach Ryan Meissner, Bennett English, Sean Hinerichsen and Sean Kluesner.

With 12 letterwinners returning, second-year coach Mark Atwater is thinking positive about the upcoming Beckman football season.

Even though he lost 12 to graduation, the returning players hold a wealth of experience that should keep them competitive since nine of them are returning starters. Returning are seniors Evan Wulfekuhle (first-team all-district), Will Brehm (second team), Sean Kluesner (honorable mention), Bennett English, Riley Fangman, and Tom Jaeger as well as junior Trent Koelker.

Joining them are promising newcomers in juniors Nick Offerman and Owen Gaul and sophomores Jason Koopman, Ben Lueck and Wyatt Schlute.

“We have a good mix of seniors and juniors coming back,” said Atwater. “Our team will be young but very bought into this program. Going into year two, this group has adjusted well to the new things we have installed into the program. They are an excellent group of young men as well.”

Atwater named West Branch, Bellevue and Cascade as the teams to beat in the district this season.
